Compeer programs of the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania (MHASP) provide the healing power of friendship to men and women in mental health recovery.  Friendship with a Compeer volunteer has been shown to boost self-esteem, reduce social isolation, and increase independence.

The MHASP's Compeer programs, serving Philadelphia and Chester counties, promote maximum recovery of people receiving mental health services, through matching them in one-to-one friendships with caring adult volunteers in a culturally competent manner.

Compeer also educates the public about mental illness, striving to eliminate stigma and increase understanding.
